Nullah the bone of contention at Robert Compound

During the deluge of 26/7 the houses in Robert Compound, Kolevery Village, Kalina was almost submerged. The main cause of the flooding was because the gutters had been choked with no passage for the water to exit. Despite almost five years the position is the same complains Sunil Sethi. His house gets flooded even when it drizzles as the village’s drain has been encroached upon and illegally diverted. More than 150 villagers have launched a citizens’ movement to raze, what they claim, are illegal encroachments along the drain by the construction of Raj Galaxy, a building that locals claim has diverted the flow of the nullah, resulting in flooding in the area. Locals claim the original drain that passes through the village was supposed to flow under the building which has been diverted after the coming up of the building. Sethi while speaking to Santacruz Patrika claims that he has documents to show the builder was asked to build a connecting nullah through the building to the main drain to reduce flooding. But he has blocked the nullah by building a compound wall admits Sethi. However, while clarifying with the corporator Rafiq Sheikh, he disputes the allegation and says that the nullah has been passing through the building of Raj Galaxy which is illegal. He adds,” Because of the nullah passing through the society premises the dirty water on many occasions have entered into the water tank of the building. To sort out this problem I have myself with my funds constructed a nullah and ensured its cleanliness.” He further emphasized, “The residents keep dumping garbage in the nullah resulting in the blockage. Let any of the residents approach me with a complaint, I will ensure that it is cleant within 48 hours.” Also, Anand Waghralkar, AMC H/E Ward claims that the nullah wasn’t encroached upon.” We had instructed the developer to build a connecting nullah from the building, but then we constructed the nullah and diverted it. So, the connecting nullah wasn’t required.”

Corruption has become a haven for illegal construction in Kalina

Demolished illegal structure at Jamblipada, Kalina
"I asked bribe they arrested, I gave bribe they released" what a corruption? Corruption is worse than prostitution. The latter might endanger the morals of an individual former invariably endangers the morals of the entire country. Make a corrupt guy ashamed of his deeds then only we can eradicate corruption.
Corruption is cancer that catches up any and every form of government. The main reason for the spread of corruption is that the people in the highest seat of power are corrupt .Unless the people at the top rung of power are honest and free from corruption; there is absolutely no possibility of eradicating corruption. If there is widespread corruption in India, it is because the people at the top are really corrupt .No subordinate will have guts to be corrupt if the people at the top of the administration are honest and take stern action against the corrupt people .They can not be harsh to the corrupt people, since it is through the corrupt subordinates that the people at the top get their share of the bribes .They say that the money so collected is shared by people from the top to the bottom. If the head is corrupt, what will the limbs do?
In the past few years land encroachment and illegal construction in Kalina has become a business of prostitution. It is alleged that right from the Politicians, Corporation, ward, agents, middlemen are all in the business of prostitution and are making money with impunity and unethical practices. Kalina has today become a haven for illegal constructions with practically everyday a new illegal construction or encroachment being noticed. But all the concerned authorities have turned a deaf ear and a blind eye since all are minting money in the trade.
A few days back a massive illegal construction was going on at Jamblipada, Kalina. The construction at survey No 443, Hissa No 12, CTS NO 5981 admeasuring 435 sq mtrs belonged to the ancestral property of D’Mello’s. The plot was sold by the D’Mello brothers to Ainul Haque and Ansari Ahmedullah in 2007. The said property had been reserved by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation for Municipal Primary School since 1958 without any progress. A few days ago BMC with its demolition squad carried a massive demolition drive and demolished the gigantic illegal construction of 1+2 structure. The demolition drive continued for almost three days.
While confirming with the ancestral property holders, speaking to ‘Santacruz Patrika’ they confirmed and added, “We have sold the property and have relinquished our right to the property. Whatever illegal activities are carried out is not our concern.” Further, while speaking to a cross section of prominent people from Kalina they added by saying, “A political party which has formed an association is in the business of mass corruption and encouragement of illegal constructions in the area. It is alleged that they take huge amounts for construction of illegal structures on the pretext of bribing the politicians, BMC, police and various other middlemen. Hence, Kalina is today flooded with illegal constructions that has put the common tax payers into hardships and the beautification and cleanliness into total disarray.
Because of mushrooming of 1+1 structures in Kalina it is observed that the number of people accommodated in the area has increased manifold with has put a heavy burden on the infrastructure. The contractors constructing these illegal structures use the existing gutters for drainage and sewerage, illegal water and electrical connections, illegal parking’s etc. This has resulted in shortage of water, encroached footpaths and blocked pavements, roads jammed with illegal parking’s, gutters flooded, drainage and sewerage choked, stagnation of water leading to mass scale epidemics and diseases. In fact last week it was reported that a young girl residing behind TWO Star Hotel died of dengue. Such is the severity of crisis in Kalina.
Regarding the demolition, while speaking to Santacruz Patrika Nasir Mohammed looked heart-broken and in a disgusted note commented, “I had taken up the project and before commencing the work I had to bribe about Rs 20 lakhs to BMC authorities, politicians, agents, middlemen and all of them assured me that there would be no problem and I can go ahead with the construction as the mandatory greasing of officials has been taken care of. But, today these very people after taking huge bribes have carried out the demolition.” He further added, “Besides the bribe of Rs 20 lakhs, I have also spent about 20 lakhs into the construction which has put me into a financial loss of around 40 lakhs.” It is astonishing to note that BMC officials because of mass scale corruption encourage illegal construction activities and later they are the ones who demolish. For filling their pockets why do these officials cheat the innocent and poor people and also put the public into a lot of inconvenience.
When Nasir was questioned as to how he has undertaken illegal construction he replied, “I have purchased the plot from the owners and I have the relevant documents to prove the legality.” But, when asked to produce the documents he confirmed that he will contact later and furnish the documents but did not contact and preferred to remain silent.
Similarly, while speaking to the local corporator Alice Therattil on the mass scale illegal constructions in her ward and why were they silent on this gigantic illegal construction, her husband Johnson Therattil replied, “As far as possible we make all efforts to stop illegal construction but action from concerned authorities is too slow and lethargic. Further we have already acted tough and as a result taken too many enemies in the ward for which we have also received threats.”
Further, while Santacruz Patrika team had been at the site during the demolition work, one of BMC labourer Sanjay Gaikar of WRE demolition squad, Andheri fell flat on the ground from the top. He was immediately rushed to the nearby Wellcare Hospital, Kalina and he received several injuries on his skull and a fracture. Later, it was learnt that he has been shifted to Sion Hospital.
It is also alleged that the plot has been an agriculture land. Santacruz Patrika tried frantically to contact the owners who had purchased the plot from the D'Mello's. But they were not reachable and accessible. However, now there are many questions that require an answer – Why was the BMC silent for almost three months when the illegal construction of the gigantic structure was going on? Why was the illegal structure protected and not demolished earlier? Why action was not initiated against the corrupt BMC officials who have been encouraging illegal construction activities? Why workers of political parties and NGOs besides several agents have not been arrested? Why these illegal contractors are not booked under MRTP?
Lastly, the innocent tax payers require an answer – With the BMC encouraging illegal activities and later employing labourers for carrying out the demolition, why should the tax payers be burdened? Also, since the police who have to leave their routine jobs are mostly employed for supervision of demolition drives. So, why has the tax payer to suffer?
It is high time a thorough investigation and enquiry be conducted on the corrupt officials, construction mafia, political workers etc and accordingly booked for criminal activities or asked to compensate? If remedial measures are not adopted then these sorts of activities will go from bad to worse.

A devotee finds himself in dire trouble. His business has gone bust and he's in serious financial trouble. He's so desperate that he decides to ask Bhagwan for help. He goes into the temple and begins to pray... "Oh Bhagwan, please help me, I've lost my business and if I don't get some money, I'm going to lose my house as well, please let me win the lotto". Lotto night comes and somebody else wins it. The devotee goes back to the temple... "Bhagwan, please let me win the lotto, I've lost my business, my house and I'm going to lose my car as well". Lotto night comes and the devotee still has no luck!! Back to the temple... "My Bhagwan, why have you forsaken me? I've lost my business, my house, my car and my wife and children are starving... I don't often ask you for help and I have always been a good servant to you. Why won't you just let me win the lotto this one time so I can get my life back in order???” Suddenly there is a blinding flash of light as the sky parts open and the devotee is confronted by the voice of Lord: "MY DEVOTEE, BUY THE DAMN TICKET FIRST".

Bombay Catholic Sabha President in a property imbroglio at Kalina?

Dolphy D'Souza
The residents living on the ground floor of Salex Centre Co-op Hsg. Society Ltd, Kalina have been living in miserable condition due to heavy leakage into their living rooms. But to their misery despite sending several notices to the secretary of the society, their problem remained unattended. It has been alleged that the residents living on the first floor of the building are reluctant to carry on any repair activities and prohibiting anyone from entering the first floor. While speaking to ‘Santacruz Patrika’, the secretary Salvadore Saldhana clarified, “the residents of the first floor Veronica Vaz and her son Ossie Vaz have been regularly harassing the residents of ground floor and not allowing us to carry on repairs.
Accordingly, we had lodged a police complain vide NC no 7004 dt 13/11/2006 and after the police intervention the leakage from the first floor had immediately stopped. This shows the mischievous acts adopted by the first floor residents”. He further added, “ The harassment began when one of the society members Sanjiva Suvarna in the AGM had an altercation between Ossie Vaz and Elma D’Souza, wife of Dolphy D’Souza, President of Bombay Catholic Sabha, who is alleged to be carrying out illegal activities from one of the first floor flats”. Sanjiva Suvarna is a senior citizen and is suffering from heart ailments and poor eyesight and lives alone. “Since at the AGM it was decided to remove the illegal metal door of the common staircase erected by the first floor residents, this angered them and they began harassing the ground floor residents.” admitted the secretary.
However, the bone of contention appears to be the flat No F-02, presently which is occupied by Veronica Vaz. The plot which was earlier a cottage was purchased by Celestine Nancy Saldhana, daughter of Veronica Vaz, along with her brothers vide registered conveyance deed dated 13/07/1993 for Rs 65,000 of which it is learnt that Rs 50,000 was paid by Nancy. Later, when the premise was developed, the upper floor was allotted to William (F-01 about 750 sq.ft), Nancy (F-02 about 300sq ft) and Veronica Vaz & Ossie Vaz (F-03 - about 700 sq.ft) All the share certificates are signed by the then Office bearers, including Mrs. Elma D'Souza, wife of Dolphy D'Souza. The society was formed in 1998.
Further, while clarifying with Nancy Saldhana she added, “On the basis of humanitarian grounds and love and affection, I allowed my mother Veronica Vaz to come / visit and reside in my flat when she desires, at her wish and will. However, my mother is residing, eating and staying with her son Ossie Vaz, at Flat No. F-03.” Adding further she states, “After one of my sons went abroad, I moved to Dahisar and allowed my mother to stay in my flat. Subsequently, Elma D’Souza and her husband Dolphy D’Souza who have an office on the ground floor of the building shifted their office illegally to the residential premises on first floor, despite of objection from society”
At present, repair work is going on Nancy’s flat and for the purpose of repair work the door of her flat has been removed and all her belonging and articles from the flat have also been moved. But to her surprise her flat was forcibly trespassed and two beds, two cupboards were dumped by Dolphy, Ozzie into her flat thereby trying to obstruct the repair work by taking law into their own hands, complained the secretary. “But when I objected and restricted their such illegal works, Dolphy, along with my brother and sisters started abusing me with filthy language and threatening me with dire consequences and are trying to create nuisance, disturbance, and breach of peace in the society”, clarified Nancy. “I also requested them not to create any obstruction and disturbance in the repairs of the flat but they did not heed” said Nancy.
When questioned on the inconvenience faced by the aged mother, the secretary replied, “Since it was agreed that repair work has to be carried in the interest of the ground floor residents.
The repair work to flat F-01 was started on 22/06/2010 and was completed on 12/07/2010. On 13/07/10 Ossie assured that furniture from flat F-02 will be shifted to F-01. But the promise was not kept.” But, instead they did not move the furniture and on the contrary asked the two ladies workers to move out and locked the grill door on the staircase “Since Nancy’s flat is hardly 12’X12’ we requested Veronica to shift into her son Ossie’s house and after the repairs can come and occupy her flat. But, the stern tactics of Dolphy D’Souza neither prohibited Veronica from moving from the flat nor allowed us to carry on the repairs,” claimed the secretary.
To substantiate on the insecurity of Veronica, Saldhana claimed that there is a solid metal door outside and the premises keys of which are in custody of Veronica and family. “Also, the door was removed with the permission of Veronica Vaz, on her complaint, that due to sand etc she cannot tolerate the screeching sound of the door. The door is still very much there.” admitted Saldhana.
“In spite of having two big flats of 750 and 700 sq ft on the same floor, adjacent and mostly empty, Dolphy Dsouza and Elma D’souza have compelled Mrs. Veronica Vaz not to move out of F-02, irrespective of the fact, the dust and cement would aggravate her ill health. This alone shows, the motivated move and malafide intention of these people and scant regard they have to the well being of a sick senior citizen”, emphasised Saldhana.
Mr.Dolphy DSouza is husband of Elma DSouza who is the daughter of Veronica. They are carrying on their business of Personnel People and Aarmik Travels since the past ten years from the premises. Both Elma and Dolphy have rented out their ground floor office as Domitory to the hotel boys of Vishwashanti and is alleged they conduct their business illegally from first floor Flat no. F-01, belonging to Mr. William Vaz who is staying abroad. “In spite of Society’s repeated warnings, they have always dared the Society to take action because of their high level contacts,” admits the secretary.
“This inhuman treatment to Veronica speaks volumes about the so called social concern of Mr. Dolphy DSouza, who is the President of BOMBAY CATHOLIC SABHA. He has made an elderly lady a pawn to cover up his illegal activity of running commercial office from a residential premise. If it is not, why should he hastily vacate F-01 a few days ago when the media arrived? questions Saldhana. It is also alleged that Dolphy inorder to cover up his illegal business cleared his office premise of G-01 and placed two tables and chairs to give the flat a semblance of an office.
The question that needs an answer is- Why is Veronica hesitant to move to F-01 or F-03 (where she eats and rests), and allow the smooth repairs of the flat in the interest of other residents? When her daughter Nancy even offered to take her to Dahisar to her residence until the repairs are over and then she could return safe, why didn’t she heed? Why Dolphy and the family are not abiding by the bye-laws of society in the interest of other residents who are facing hardships? This implies it is a well orchestrated game plan by Mr. Dolphy D’Souza and family.
The Editor made several attempts to clarify with Dolphy D’Souza, but on every occasion he refused to meet on some pretext or the other.

Will Kripa be relinquished of Mumbai chief post?

There are rumours floating around in Congress circles that Mumbai regional Congress committee chief Kripashankar Singh is likely to face the axe from the Congress High command for his political link of Koda's money laundering scam whose ramifications have begun to reach at the door of the Congress Chief Sonia Gandhi. As per Government formation on May 20 to be precise Kripashankar Singh had escorted Madhu Koda to meet Sonia Gandhi for pledging his support to the UPA. The decision from the party high command is expected shortly said sources. But, despite the allegations it is understood that Kripashankar Singh is favoured by party high command because Kripa is the blue eyed boy of Pratibhatai Patil, his actual mentor in Congress. He achieved success and got into politics by buttering seniors. Senior Congress leaders said the party high command has already made up its mind to remove Singh from the party post and was waiting for a formal report on charges of Singh's links with Koda's illegal money transactions. Raids by the Income-Tax department and the Enforcement Directorate in the Rs 4,000-crore Madhu Koda scam have cast a shadow on the Mumbai chief of the Congress, Kripashankar Singh. Investigators are examining, among his other assets, savings bank accounts of his family that show disproportionately large transactions between 2006-07 and 2008-09, and several discrepancies in documents that suggest forgery. Eight savings bank accounts of his family members and close associates are under the scanner. Three of these accounts show cash deposits and transfers of nearly Rs 65 crore in two years by Kripashankar's wife Maltidevi Singh and son Narendra Mohan Singh, neither of whom has known sources of income. Both Koda and Kamlesh Singh were arrested in November last year; the Jharkhand vigilance bureau filed preliminary chargesheets against them for holding assets disproportionate to known sources of income. Kamlesh Singh's assets were estimated at nearly 130 per cent more than his sources of income. However, it is alleged that a considerable sum of scam money may have been diverted through his daughter, son-in-law and the latter's father, Kripashankar Singh.
However, there are also strong rumours floating in Congress circles that Kripashankar may be relinquished of his post and the likely contender for the post is Eknath Gaikwad. But others in the fray like Priya Dutt, Sanjay Nirupam are likely to stake a claim for the Mumbai chief post, said Congress sources.

‘Shiv Sena’s diktat will lead our family to penury’-Tiwari

Vinayak Raut, Secretary, Shiv Sena
Sadanand Ram Adhar Tiwari, aged 73 years had a dream of making a life in Mumbai. He came to Mumbai at the age of 16 years and from hard work managed to build a house and shop for his family at Dattamandir, Vakola. Later as he grew old he constituted attorney to his son Balendra Sadanand Tiwari, 43 years and residing with his father, wife Rukmani and three sons. They began residing upstairs and rented their shop to various clients. It is learnt that Kalulal Bherulal Choradia was rented the shop on leave and license basis from 1999 and accordingly he set up business of Jewellers in the name of Shubham Jewellers from the shop. The agreement was finalized for a deposit of Rs 1, 20,000 and Rs 8,000 as rent.
Thereafter, as Balendra ran into financial difficulties it is learnt that he obtained a loan of Rs 2, 35,950 from Choradia in 2007. Further, while speaking to ‘Santacruz Patrika’ Choradia added, “Since Balendra had also obtained a loan from Vinayak Raut’s Co-op Credit Soc, named Rameshwar Co-op Credit Soc and he was unable to pay the amount, the Credit Soc’s recovery agents came to seal the shop. Since I had invested a huge amount in the shop I helped Balendra and footed the loan of the bank by paying Rs 85,550”. “Hence, I loaned about Rs 4, 83,000 to Balendra while running my business in the shop,” clarified Choradia.
Thereafter, in November 2009 Balendra renewed the agreement of the shop and allowed Choradia to run his business from 1/8/2009 to 30/6/2010. In the meantime a lot of rift took place between Balendra and Choradia in regards to increase of rent, non-payment of rent and refund of loan amount. While clarifying with ‘Santacruz Patrika’ Balendra adds, “For the past more than 10 years Choradia has not increased the rent of the shop in proportion to the increase of property prices. Today the going rent in the area is around Rs 15-000-20,000 and Choradia has stuck to the old rent amount of Rs 8,000 which has put me into huge losses”. Further clarifying Balendra added that for the past five years Choradia has not paid rent for a single month and the outstanding rent amounts to Rs 4, 80,000.” His wife further added, “With my husband suffering from diabetes and unable to ply his rickshaw we are living in pathetic condition and Choradia has deprived us of our livelihood.”
But, while clarifying with Choradia for non-payment of five years rent he confessed, “I have paid the entire rent to Balendra and only for the past 11 months since our dispute is on I have held up his rent. When questioned on the authenticity of the claim Choradia did not have any receipts or documentation evidence to substantiate his claim and replied that the rent was paid in cash. Since there was a dispute regarding the peaceful handing over of the shop to Balendra on expiry of the agreement the matter was being heard in The Court of Small Causes, Bandra Branch. Choradia claims that unless Balendra clears his loan amount of Rs 4,50,000 he is in possession of the shop as Balendra assured him to hand over the possession only after the payment of the loan amount received. But Balendra claims that vide agreement dt 23/3/2009 he has paid Rs 4,50,000 to Choradia but Choradia disputes of receiving any amount and alleges that the document has been forged by Balendra.
Finally, on12/7/2010, the Judge of Small Causes Court rejected Choradia’s plea for temporary injunction. The plea was rejected on grounds citing that the shop being mortgaged by Choradia does not stand any validity in Court since it is not registered; since the leave and license agreement expires on 30/6/2010 the court treated Choradia as a trespasser and not owner and is an unauthorized occupant. Ever since the rejection of the order by Court, Balendra has been pressurizing Choradia to hand over the peaceful possession of his shop. But in vain.
Balendra told this publication that whenever he has approached Choradia for the peaceful possession of his shop, Choradia has since then taken the support of Michael Fernandes of Maharashtra Navnirman Sena and his boys. His wife too told this publication that MNS goons keep attacking and threatening us for which complaints have been made at Vakola Police station. When clarified with Choradia he admitted to having taken the support of MNS boys for his safety. Finally last week out of desperation Balendra approached Sr PI Vakola Police station regarding possession of his shop and he was adviced to meet Lata Shirsat, PI who co-operated and assured that she would look into the matter.
But to their surprise, Balendra’s wife informs ‘Santacruz Patrika’ that in the evening MNS boys were summoned to our place and asked her husband to report to their office for a compromise. But it is understood that Balendra did not accept to the compromise package of the MNS. His wife further adds, “Within half an hour thereafter a few Shiv Sena boys approached us and asked Balendra that he has been summoned by Vinayak Raut at his office. Balendra along with his aged father went to the office of Vinayak Raut and added that Vinayak Raut along with Baliram Ghag and many Shiv Sena men made him forcefully agree to their terms and pay up the money to Choradia or face the consequences. His aged father too added that since we requested Vinayak Raut that Choradia has to pay us three years rent he did not heed to our requests and gave a one sided ultimatum in favour of Choradia. Balendra wife finally sums up by adding that since we have no food to eat and in a state of penury, how come Vinayak Raut has pressurized my husband to pay up the money when the matter is in the Court?
Now the question that requires an answer is – Is the Shiv Sena or the MNS above the court of Law in passing judgments?

Will Kripashankar tide over alleged involvement of Rs 4,000 crore scam?

Madhu Koda, Ex-Chief Minister of Jharkhand and Kripashankar Singh, Mumbai Chief of Congress
Mumbai’s chief of Congress and Kalina’s MLA Kripashankar Singh, for the past more than a year has been entangled into a heap of controversies. Last year raids were conducted by the Income-Tax department and the Enforcement Directorate into Kripashankar’s alleged involvement of the Rs 4,000-crore Madhu Koda scam. Investigators are examining, among his other assets, savings bank accounts of his family that show disproportionately large transactions between 2006-07 and 2008-09, and several discrepancies in documents that suggest forgery.
Eight savings bank accounts of his family members and close associates are under the scanner. Three of these accounts show cash deposits and transfers of nearly Rs 65 crore in two years by Kripashankar’s wife Maltidevi Singh and son Narendra Mohan Singh, neither of whom has known sources of income. These transactions unearth at a time when Kripashankar was All-India Congress Committee (AICC) observer for Jharkhand, exactly when Koda, an independent MLA then, was sworn in CM with Congress support. Further, at that time his son, Narendra Mohan married Ankita, daughter of Jharkhand politician Kamlesh Singh, in April ’08. Ankita’s dad Kamlesh Singh was then water resources minister in the Koda government and is a key accused in the scam.
Both Koda and Kamlesh Singh were arrested in November last year; the Jharkhand vigilance bureau filed preliminary charge sheets against them for holding assets disproportionate to known sources of income. Kamlesh Singh’s assets were estimated at nearly 130 per cent more than his sources of income. However, it is alleged that a considerable sum of scam money may have been diverted through his daughter, son-in-law and the latter’s father, Kripashankar. Also, on investigations it is revealed that the Koda diary, incidentally, mentions a “Kripashankar a/c” with several entries against it. Kripashankar has denied it was him, but investigators have placed him and his family under scrutiny.
Kripashankar’s family owns properties in projects executed by one of the real estate companies which deposited huge amounts into his son’s account; the company also has infrastructure projects in Jharkhand. Also, there was a sudden rise in the wealth and property acquisitions of the Kripashankar family in Mumbai during the years Koda held sway in Jharkhand (first as mines minister in the Arjun Munda-led BJP regime, and later as CM). This includes a large duplex apartment near Mumbai airport, a bungalow on Bandra’s Carter Road, known as one of the costliest property prices of real estate in Mumbai, office spaces and shops at key locations in projects by either of the two real estate companies associated with the family, and land in Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh.
Kripashankar’s wife Maltidevi, who happens to be religious and god fearing person, holds commodity forward trading accounts which, on paper, show losses. Further, investigations found discrepancies in the personal details provided for the two accounts—one is in the name of Maltidevi Kripashankar Singh, while the other sub-broker account is in the name of Maltidevi Uma Shankar Singh (the middle name is her late father’s). Investigators also do not rule out the possibility of other benami transactions and investments that are more difficult to unravel. It is also alleged that the modus operandi of the family seems to have been to use two bank accounts, one for cash and other for deposits, which were then transferred into other accounts for investments into real estate, commodities markets. The role of the bank too has come under scrutiny. During the same period, Kripashankar who came to Mumbai in the ’70s began his career as a potato/onion vendor and later was Minister of State for Home in the Vilasrao Deshmukh government. Besides being the Congress’s city unit president, he’s now the party MLA from Kalina suburb.
But that election too is in imbroglio. The affidavit filed under Rule 4-A for the October 2009 Maharashtra Assembly polls does not mention the duplex apartment under immoveable assets held by spouse; nor does it disclose four other properties either held by his wife or in which she has financial interest. This became the subject of an election petition filed by one of Kripashankar’s rivals from Kalina constituency, Chandrakant G. More of the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena in the Bombay High Court.
Also, Kripashankar appears to have acquired a second PAN card in complete violation of law. His election affidavit 2009 mentions number CFYPS989P as his PAN, but in the affidavit he filed in September 2004 for the assembly election, he gives his PAN as AVAPS1485L. Possessing two PAN cards is a crime and cannot possibly be an oversight, says an investigator. Was the second PAN card acquired to conceal transactions that take the trail back to Koda, Kamlesh Singh and others in the scam? However, Kripashankar says he has returned one of the cards and also denies any links with Koda and his associates, and insists his relationship with Kamlesh Singh is purely at a family level. He also terms the entire episode as fabricated without any truth in the allegations. It is nothing but a political conspiracy hatched by his political rivals.”
Now, the Bombay high court was informed on Thursday that two investigation agencies were probing allegations against Mumbai Congress chief and Kalina MLA Kripashankar Singh of having amassed massive wealth disproportionate to his known source of income. An ex-minister of state for Home, Singh filed an affidavit in which he denied all charges and dismissed the allegations as being "baseless and politically motivated'' by PIL petitioner Sanjay Tiwari. The EOW in its affidavit said they scrutinized the PIL and felt the allegations failed to come under the purview of the agency. The affidavit filed by DCP Vasant Dhobale said copies of the petition were already marked to specialised agencies like RBI, I-T, CBI, ACB, Enforcement Directorate. The court called for others to file their affidavit and the next hearing is scheduled for August 5. Three agencies which filed affidavits in court were the I-T department, ACB, Maharashtra and Economic Offences Wing, Crime Branch, CID, Mumbai. The ACB on the other hand said a probe was on. It said Singh's property documents and that of his family were being verified.
